Mental Health Counselor
Overview
Seneca's Ventura County Crisis Program provides crisis stabilization and short-term residential treatment for youth in serious distress. Services also include linkage to long-term, sustainable supports based on each client's unique strengths and needs. This groundbreaking program provides a no eject, no reject policy to meet the needs of the youth in our care. The Mental Health Counselor provides crisis support for youth entering the 23-hour Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). Mental Health Counselors create a safe and nurturing environment for youth that come into the program, and intervene as necessary to assist the youth with stabilization and support.
Responsibilities
Assist clinicians with the intake process, including assessment and creating a welcoming environment for the youth
Provide stabilization services for youth including individualized intervention, safety planning, behavioral intervention and coping skills education
Work closely with parents and/or social workers as treatment team members, and help social workers prepare a treatment plan
Engage the youth in therapeutic activities and projects
Provide supervision for visits with family when necessary
Participate in weekly supervision
Maintain accurate and timely documentation and paperwork
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Own vehicle, California Driver's License, and insurance
TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
Bilingual abilities a plus!
Prefer experience in working with children in residential care and/or in the community
Schedule
Some day shifts, and some night shifts required
Some on-call responsibilities; must be part of a rotating emergency pager system
